Special Itakaaf (December 2006)

Close to a hundred children aged from 8 to 20 joined us at the Leicester Central Mosque to perform a special 24 hour Itakaaf during the weekend of 23rd and 24th December 2006.

A wide range of activities, lectures, workshops and practical sessions were arranged by the management council and mosque volunteers to ensure this Itakaaf was a rich and fulfilling experience for all the young Muslims who attended.

During the 24 hours a wide range of lectures and workshops were organised on many subjects including Prophet Isha (Peace be upon him), the importance of the Mosque and Salah and education. Small workshops ensured that the young Muslims could interact with our trained group leaders and gain maximum benefit from the experience.

Thanks to our sponsors, we ensured that our young Muslim boys were well fed and energised ready for the next set of workshops and practical sessions.

Practical workshops included ensuring that our young Muslims understood the importance of Wuzu (ablution) and how to perform it correctly.

Hajj played a large part of this itakaaf which included a presentation of how the Hajj is performed and the significance of all the rituals performed during the pilgrimage.

The highlight of the Itakaaf was a Hajj practical performed in the community centre of the mosque. Our volunteers worked hard to re-create the Kaaba, Mina, Arafat and other parts of Makkah so the young Muslims could experience for themselves the rituals of Hajj

There was no shortage of Naats from our young Muslims. Children as young as 8 performed beautiful Naats both during our midnight Naat session and during the Naat competition.

May Allah reward those young Muslims who attended this special Itakaaf and may Allah bless those hard working volunteers and sponsors who came together to make this programme possible.
