It has come to our attention at the Islamic Centre Leicester that snippets from postings on the Mosque website have been selectively reported on social media to level accusations of discrimination by our organisation.

The Islamic Centre is proud of its record on the active participation of women in the management and running of our organisation where they support a wide range of services and educational programmes. In fact, in 2010, we were awarded a full five stars as a ‘Woman-friendly’ mosque. This study was carried out by Faith Matters, the interfaith conflict resolution organisation and was supported by the Department of Communities and Local Government.

Since its inception in 1968, the Islamic Centre Leicester has actively engaged with local authorities, organisations, statutory, voluntary bodies and the wider community to promote the peaceful message of Islam and fulfill our moral and civic responsibilities as members of this great country. We stand by our record of inter-faith engagement, friendship and respect of all and will never knowingly advocate any form of disrespect or discrimination against any individual, group or organisation.

We will endeavour to work even harder to ensure all material and resources generated by the Islamic Centre is free from any potential misinterpretation. Our doors have and will always be open and we welcome healthy debate and discourse with all.

As a registered charity, we are liaising with the Charity Commission and look forward to defending our longstanding commitment to peaceful and moderate engagement with those of faith and those of no faith in challenging all forms of injustice and discrimination.
