Mawlid Questions Answered

Each year questions are asked about the validity of celebrating the Mawlid.

Questions like :

  • The Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Companions did not observe the Mawlid, why celebrate it now ?
  • There is no mention of the word ‘Mawlid’ or ‘Milād’ in the Qur’ān and so it is obviously no part of Islam.
  • The Mawlid is a bid’a (Innovation) and as the Prophet said, ‘every bid’a is misguidance’.
  • If Mawlid celebrations were permissible, then the Prophet (peace be upon him) certainly would have instructed his Ummah to commemorate it.

A booklet was produced by the Islamic Centre in 2013 to answer the common questions raised against celebrating the Mawlid.

Download the main body of the booklet here in PDF format.
